The FOA was chartered to approve schools offering training and provide certifications as a service to the fiber optic industry.

The FOA is an international non-profit professional society for the fiber optic industry. It develops educational programs, certify fiber optic technicians, approve fiber optic training courses, participate in standard-making processes and generally promote fiber optic.

FOA has been requested to create standards for contractors, installers and network users; one of the these is the NECA/FOA-301 Standard For Installing And Testing Fiber Optic Cables. The FOA and NECA have agreed to make this standard available free to FOA members. 

The FOA programs are developed and maintained by experts in the fiber optic business, most of whom have over 20 years of experience as technicians, installers, manufacturers and teachers of fiber optics. The programs are also well received and have benefitted many.

The FOA has certified over 43,000 CFOTs (Certified Fiber Optic Technicians) through over 250 approved training organizations worldwide. You are welcome to join us as part of the growing CFOTs.
